| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is development of Microbial fuel cells (MFC) using Shewanella oneidensis MR-1. Carbon felt suite material for anode of MFC, because it has large surface area and high electric conductivity. While Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 is well known microorganism which generate electricity and is used for MFCs frequently. Then the development in this study is focused on the effective anode, which accept electron form the cell, of MFCs using S. oneidensis MR-1. In chapter 1, the principle of MFC which using a metabolism of microorganism generating electron along with degradation of organic substrate. And the thesis mention about the advantage of MFC compared with thermal power generation for it has the limitation of Carnot cycle while MFC has not such limitation for convert the chemical bond energy of organic substrate to electric energy. In chapter 2, electroplating was performed on carbon fiber of anode, and the surfaces were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. In the result, the peaks corresponded to those of Fe2O3. The amount of biofilm of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 was evaluated using crystal violet staining, and living bacteria were counted as colony forming units to prove the effect of iron-plating. In chapter 3, starch-fueled microbial fuel cells by two-step and parallel fermentation using S. oneidensis MR-1 and Streptococcus bovis 148 was described. In electric generation by two-step fermentation (EGT) method, starch was first converted to lactic acid by S. bovis 148 then the fermented broth was conducted to electricity generation by S. oneidensis MR-1. Another method was electric generation by parallel fermentation (EGP) method. In this method, the cultivation and subsequent fermentation processes of S. bovis 148 and S. oneidensis MR-1 were performed simultaneously. In chapter 4, effect of iron-plate onto carbon-felt anode to electric generation of microbial fuel cells using S. oneidensis MR-1 was described. The iron-plated carbon felt was applied to anode of MFC. In chapter 5, general review and future perspective were described. | |||||||||
