内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In the present thesis, the rheological properties and colloidal gelation behavior of temperature (T)-responsive soft microgel suspensions are investigated. In Chapter I, the basic introduction of the characteristics of T-responsive microgels, the viscoelasticity of their microgel suspensions, and the colloidal gelation phenomena is provided. In Chapter II, sample synthesize, preparation and experimental method used in this study are illustrated. The poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (denote as N) and poly(N-isopropyl methacrylamide) (denote as NM) microgels with various values of particle size and crosslink densities are employed in the experiments. In Chapter III, the elastic and flow properties of binary N/N microgel pastes with size and stiffness disparities are investigated. The effects of the size and stiffness disparities on elasticity, yield point, and steady-state flow properties are elucidated. The local fast dynamics of microgels is correlated to the characteristic time in the steady-state flow of the pastes. In Chapter IV, the yielding and flow properties of binary N/NM microgel pastes with chemically dissimilar surfaces are studied. We reveal that the contribution of the N-NM contacts to yield strain (γc) of the mixtures. We also show that large size disparity results in anomalies not only in the composition dependence of γc and modulus, but also in steady state flow behavior, due to the characteristic packing efficiency where small particles enter in the gap between large particles. In Chapter V, the formation criteria and viscoelasticity of colloidal gels are revealed for the N microgel suspensions. We examine how each of surface charge density, T and particle concentration affects the colloidal gelation, and elucidate the correlation between them. The rheological properties of the colloidal gels are revealed by large amplitude oscillatory shear, and long-term linear creep and recovery measurements. In Chapter VI, viscoelasticity and colloidal gelation of binary N/NM microgel suspensions with different transition T are investigated. We analyze the measured T-dependence of linear viscoelasticity by converting into the dependence on each particle volume fraction or the total particle volume fraction. This analysis elucidates the contribution of the packing effect to the viscoelasticity, and it also gives a clue to clarify the criterion for the onset gelation temperature. In Chapter VII, the important results of present thesis are concisely summarized.
